CD Project Red recently released a brand update for the PS4 that adds support for HDR. While the update is great in general, some of the performance tweaks might have made the game worse than it was originally running on the PS4.
After the update was released, fans have started to report on the official CD Project forums that they are facing strange level-of-detail issue that results in objects popping up fairly close to the player. This can be incredibly distracting if you are travelling on a horse or just trying to explore the world.
The issue can be seen in multiple videos shared by users including some which are linked below. The performance issue appears to have started with the release of new update, which ironically cites that they have optimized the performance of the game on the PS4.
The Witcher 3 received its Xbox One X update that added HDR support last year. The update was the first one to include HDR support as the original Witcher 3 never shipped with one. CD Project Red later confirmed that HDR support will be released for the PS4 Pro as well and this has turned out to be true after the release of the new patch.
Judging from the pop-in issue that has started after this new update, it can negatively affect the experience if you are sensitive to such issues. Hopefully CD Project Red can work out the cause and fix it in a new update, after all they are known for their great post-launch support.
The Witcher 3 is available now for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
