Troy Baker voiced Rhys, one of the two protagonists of the Telltale Games developed Tales from the Borderlands spin-off adventure game, but apparently he won’t be returning to voice the character in Borderlands 3.
Tales from the Borderlands was a five episode adventure game released between November 2014 to October 2015 that I absolutely loved. If interested you can read my reviews for Episode 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Rhys was confirmed to make an appearance in Borderlands 3, GearBox Software’s long awaited next entry in the mainline series of the super popular loot shooter, sporting a stylish mustache too.
Baker however confirmed that he was not contacted to return to voice the character and found out about Rhys returning in Borderlands 3 via the trailer just like the rest of us. Baker further had some words for GearBox that we can’t help but agree with fully.
I really want Gearbox to know that if they are going to bring back characters from Tales from the Borderlands, it should be with the people who originated the characters. They should not recast willy-nilly because, as a fan, that matters to me.
The news is certainly disappointing but we hope whoever is voicing Rhys now can muster up the same magic that Baker did.
There could be a reason that GearBox would do this on purpose, but that’s diverging into spoiler territory. For those who have played Tales from the Borderlands, just consider who our annoying invisible companion was throughout the game.
Borderlands 3 is set to release on September 13 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
