Ever since Grand Theft Auto V included three playable characters in the story mode fans have been wondering if the next Red Dead game will get the same treatment.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 was revealed and fans found out that it’ll feature the Van Der Linde gang, many speculated if we would be able to play as multiple members of the gang.
Now we have official confirmation that this is not the case and Red Dead Redemption 2 will have only one playable character – Arthur Morgan. Art Director Josh Bass confirmed the news in a recent interview.
Sticking with a single character felt more appropriate for the structure and narrative of a western. Arthur lives with and fights alongside the other members of the van der Linde gang, and they are a group of fully realized characters with relationships to each other and to Arthur, but this is Arthur’s story and we are placing players firmly in Arthur’s boots as he and the gang deal with a rapidly changing world. We think people will really love the feeling of being in the gang. It isn’t like anything we’ve done before.
I think this is really good news as it puts focus on delivering the story from a single point of view, it worked in GTA V’s case but you can’t really do the same with every game.
In recent news about Red Dead Redemption 2 we just got to see some character profiles about the main characters from the game.
Red Dead Redemption releases later this year on October 26 for Xbox One and PS4.
