2016 is going to be a big year for Virtual Reality gaming as many well known VR products such as HTC Vive, PlayStation VR and the most anticipated VR product, Oculus Rift will launch this year.

Recently, a research group known as SuperData has released a new report that predicts how well the VR Industry will do this year. A total of $6.1 billion has been invested into the VR Industry in the past three years and inverstors are hoping to see big profit this year.

According to the report, Europe will take the lead in VR sales by generating $1.9 billion in revenue. North American Market will take the second place in the sale charts by generating $1.5 billion and Asia will take the place behind these two by generating $1.1 billion. As for the rest of the world, it will generate $0.6 billion combined, thus the VR industry will generate a total of $5.1 billion in 2016. SuperData also expects the VR industry to make a jump to $8.9 billion in 2017 and jump even further to $12.3 billion in 2018.

As for the sales, SuperData reports that small VR products like Google Cardboard will sell around 27.1 million units in 2016, thus they will take the lead in the sale charts. HTC Vive and Oculus Rift will hit the second place on the charts by selling a total of 6.6 million units combined, probably 3.3 million units each. “Premium” mobile VR devices, such as Samsung Gear VR, will follow these three by selling 2.5 million units and PlayStation VR, on the other hand, will sell around 1.9 million units, thus taking the last place in VR industry in terms of sales. The VR Market will also reach an install base of 55.8 million customers at the end of 2016 according to SuperData.

Oculus Rift is available to pre-order now at a price of $599 and will ship in March 2016. There is still no word on the release date or price of other VR products. Sony’s CEO Kaz Hirai recently announced that there are more than 100 games currently in development for their next-gen VR headgear, PlayStation VR. This announcement is same as the one Oculus VR made. They also stated that more than 100 games for Oculus Rift will be released in 2016. SuperData also suggests that there are currently more than 829 virtual reality games in development. 2016 is definitely going to be a big year for Virtual Reality gaming.
