The Batman Arkham series are not only the best Batman games but also some of the best games of all time. Developers Rocksteady have clearly showed that a Movie or Superhero IP can be made into a good game. Publisher Warner Bros.’s Ames Kirshen, vice president of product development DC games, recently sat down to talk about The Dark Knight and other DC characters in an interview with PS Blog.
In the interview they talked about the possibility of future Batman titles, with WB confirming that the Arkham series will definitely not be the last time we’re seeing Batman in action in games… Not that we ever had a doubt considering the success of the Arkham games.
Batman is one of the cornerstone IPs for Warner Bros. With the Arkham series, we were finally able to experience the full potential of the character.
We don’t have anything to talk about at this time, but the possibilities are endless with a character as dynamic and beloved as Batman.
On the topic of Batman and Superheroes, Kirshen revealed that Batman isn’t the only Superhero in consideration for future games – other IPs could also get games of their own in the future.
When choosing what DC Entertainment IP they might focus on for any game, it boils down to honing in on the IPs that map the strongest, genre-wise, to what fans are interested in seeing and playing.
Who wouldn’t love a superb Superman game?
Batman: Arkham Knight released last June after numerous delays to critical and financial acclaim. The game ended the four part Arkham series that started with Arkham Asylum. Developers Rocksteady have moved on to an unannounced project ending their work on Batman, we can’t wait to see what they have under their sleeves.
Batman Arkham Night’s season of DLC has started with the latest patch prepping up consoles for the DLC going live recently. The DLC released so far hasn’t been much to talk about but fingers are crossed that future ones are at least as fun as the main game. Batman has become so popular that even some casinos (such as 888 as reviewed here) are popping up games inspired by The Dark Knight’s hometown of Gotham.
Personally, of all the DC properties I’d love to see a Red Hood game. Playing as the former Boy Wonder in The Red Hood DLC for Arkham Knight was really enjoyable as a fan of the character. A gun welding Batman who isn’t afraid to kill is something that could be really fun. Which DC character do you want to get the Batman treatment next? Let us know in the comments below.
