The Witcher 3 has finally received an update for the Xbox One X support and it comes with two different visual modes. One of them runs the game at 4K resolution while the other mode is running a dynamic 4K resolution with a lower bound of 1080p. The performance mode targets 60 fps while the 4K mode runs at locked 30 fps.
After the patch was released, YouTube user VGTech has shared the first analysis of the frame rate and performance for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on the Xbox One X. Here is what they had to say regarding the resolution for The Witcher 3 in the two different modes.
Xbox One X in 4K Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the lowest pixel count found being approximately 2620×1480 and the highest count found being 3840×2160.
Xbox One X in Performance Mode uses a dynamic resolution with the lowest pixel count found being 1920×1080 and the highest count found being approximately 2650×1490
PS4 Pro version of the game uses checkerboard rendering tech to reach 3840×2160. This technique can also introduce plenty of artifacts. The Xbox One X version runs at dynamic 4K and can hit native 4K doesn’t maintain it for the whole game. The performance mode of the game can also range from somewhere between 35 fps to 60 fps depending on the rendering load.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. The new patch for Xbox One X also adds HDR support for the first time, which is planned for the PS4 Pro after new year’s. Meanwhile if you own The Witcher 3 on PC, you will have to wait because CD Project Red has no plan to currently implement HDR support for PC users.
