The Witcher 3 update for the Xbox One X has been long overdue. This update is already available on the PS4 Pro but the Xbox One X patch was nowhere to be seen, even if the console has now been out for more than a month. The update for the PS4 Pro offered some nice improvement with a jump to checkerboard 4K resolution. The visual upgrade for the Xbox One X is unknown so far but judging from the PS4 Pro, it won’t be surprising to see something like native 4K on the Xbox One X.
In a new update for the Xbox One X support website, the status of The Witcher 3 has been changed to ‘coming soon’ which was also the case with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4, before both of them received their official updates for the Xbox One X.
The Witcher 3 initially launched with 900p on the original Xbox One and then was later patched to a dynamic 1080p resolution that could hit 900p at its lowest. The bump to resolution on the Xbox One X should be significant although it remains to be seen if other aspects of the visuals will be enhanced or simply the resolution will do it.
If you own The Witcher 3 physically, you can also test out the unpatched version of the game without any update installed on the Xbox One X, where it can hit 60 fps since it runs at an unlocked frame rate there. It is very hard to say if CD Project Red will prefer resolution or frame rate for the Xbox One X.
The Witcher 3 is available now for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
