Xbox One was the best selling console for the month of October according to numbers published today by the NPD Group. The console saw a surge in sales thanks to the launch of Halo 5: Guardians, which ended up becoming the top selling game for the month. Following Halo 5 is NBA 2K16, which was last month’s top seller. Halo 5: Guardians managed to dethrone the sports title despite the former being exclusive to one platform i.e. Xbox One. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate managed to rank in at third place.
The top ten list of best selling titles for the month of October can be seen below.
- Halo 5: Guardians (XBO)
- NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
- Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (PS4, XBO)
- Madden NFL 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
- WWE 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
- FIFA 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
- Destiny: The Taken King (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
- Yoshi’s Wooly World (NWU)
- Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (PS4)
- Rock Band 4 (XBO, PS4)
Interestingly, the Wii U exclusive Yoshi’s Wooly World managed to sell more copies than the PS4 exclusive Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Both titles debuted in October, and given Uncharted’s popularity, it’s surprising to see it barely make it into the sales charts.
Based on a statement from Microsoft, Xbox One sales saw a growth of 81 percent as compared to October 2014, putting the console ahead of its competitors for the month. The console maker cited “the strength of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history,” including October’s top-selling game Halo 5: Guardians, as the reason behind the hardware sales boost as well as a “record” Xbox Live usage for the month.
