SEGA has announced the sequel to Yakuza Kiwami for a launch in the Western market on August 28th. This is a complete remake of Yakuza 2 that was released on the PS2, build from the ground up for the PS4 using the Yakuza 6 game engine.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 has already launched in Japan but the Western localization announcement was confirmed for the first time today. The announcement trailer can be seen below.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will launch with a special day one Steelbook edition that is available to purchase for $49.99. The game will also launch digitally at the same price along with the retail release. You can check out the Steelbook design below.
Unlike Yakuza Kiwami, the sequel also features fan favorite Goro Majima. The story takes turn between Goro and Kiryu’s campaign just like it was the case with Yakuza 0. This remake is developed on the Yakuza 6 game engine, also called the Dragon Engine. It features cutting edge graphics and technology so there are no load times and the open world experience is completely seamless, unlike Yakuza 0 or Kiwami.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be released on August 28th for the PS4 and will retail for $49.99. SEGA hasn’t announced any special edition for the game aside from the Steelbook edition. The game was developed and published by SEGA and it is technically the second remake for the mainline series on the current generation consoles.
