Youtuber made over $7 Million playing games in 2014

Popular Youtuber PewDiePie and his company Pewdie Productions AB made a profit of 7.45 million USD (or 6.7 million Euros in direct conversion) exclusive of taxes through his Youtube channel in the year 2014, Swedish website Gamereactor reports. This figure is up from the 7.2 million that made in the year 2012.

PewDiePie earned this huge sum of money by  putting up videos of his ‘Let’s Play’ game playthroughs on his Youtube channel. He makes it a point to have himself prominently featured in his videos as he goes about playing his games, cracking jokes and parodies along the way for comic relief.

For the uninitiated, here’s an example of some of his recent work; a full playthrough session of Bloodborne.

It’s interesting to note that the individual’s fan following is increasing every year, as indicated by an increase in his annual earnings. Though, he does appear to have his fair share of haters as well. especially since he tends to attract a large number of hateful comments on social media. PewDiePie is quite charitable, though, as he frequently gives away money to charity.

What’s your take on folks making large sums of money from game playthroughs that you may passively consume on Youtube? Let us know in the comments below.
