Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, the latest entry in the long running Action RPG franchise, releases later this year on September 26 for the PS4 in Japan. A western release has not yet been confirmed.
Alongside the news of an exact date we also got our first proper look at protagonist Adol and his companion Dogi. Interestingly Adol will be sporting Blue hair in this game instead of his signature Red, supposedly to hide his identity as he’s operating undercover. This makes sense as since Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is set the furthest in the timeline, so at this point Adol should be pretty recognizable.
As usual for Ys games, Adol is thrown face first into an adventure he didn’t ask for. This time around he’s imprisoned in Baldeux, The Prison City which we detailed a while back, as a witness in the case of a Romuni Fleet disappearing out in the Atlas Ocean. Adol obviously one to sit around, runs into a mysterious girl with a gun as he’s inadvertently involved in a situation revolving around the city and its strange Monstrum.
Developers Falcom also detailed on Supernatural Actions and the Crimson Line ability.
Supernatural Actions are a brand new action system allowing Monstrum characters to use their supernatural powers. These powers are usable everywhere and not just in battle.
The Crimson Line ability for example is a Supernatural Action that enables players to move over huge distance using a Crimson Line on their hand. The ability even allows players to go through obstacles like walls and rocks.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox releases exclusively for the PS4 in Japan on September 26, 2019.
